Updated July 9, 2007
As of December 1, 2006 the Old Pendleton Database contains information on over 381,000 individuals and more than 128,000 families with roots in the Old Pendleton District of South Carolina.

The late Herman Geschwind maintained the OPD Database. We are currently searching for a volunteer to take over the task of maintaining this huge database. We are sorry but we cannot accept any new additions or updates to the Database Project until we have a new volunteer.

To recap what the Database is and is not, here is a brief summary:  For individuals the Database will show names, dates and places where born, married, died and buried. There will be links to spouses, children, parents and siblings.

The data for the file came from member contributions and many other sources. While we do our best to assure data consistency and integrity, we cannot verify the information submitted to us by others. For that reason the Database should be viewed as a research tool and ready reference and as a guide to further research and genealogical proof.  We are not an officially recognized repository by most hereditary societies.

This is very much of an ongoing project and as new information becomes available, not only will individual and family records be added, but information contained in existing records may change. So, as new versions are posted, the old version should be deleted and the new one used for reference.

GEDCOM files are preferred but Email messages or text files are also welcome. This is a giant puzzle and every little bit helps! Our sincere thanks to all the members who contributed to the project.

Since computer hardware has improved so much that dial-up downloads are a thing of the past and hard-disk capacity has ceased to be a concern, we have eliminated the partial data and merge batch files.  Now, in order to download the latest version of the OPD database in a single large file just click the button below.  After you download and save the file to your computer, double-click on the self-executable file OPD.EXE and follow the instructions.
