elcome to the home page of the Old Pendleton District Chapter of the
South Carolina Genealogical Society. If you are researching in the area of Old Pendleton District we invite you to join our Chapter. We currently have 430 members and are always growing. Chapter members do not do personal research for others, but willingly share their material. The Society has many published works on the area.
The Old Pendleton District Chapter publishes ten 24-page newsletters a year, loaded with information on the area and people of the District (now Pickens, Oconee and Anderson Counties). We welcome your articles, queries, lineage charts, etc. for publication in the newsletters. New members who join during the year will receive all newsletter back issues for the year.
The Old Pendleton District Genealogical Database Project now contains records of over 381,000 individuals and more than 128,000 families who were residents or had lineal connections with OPD residents. If you had ancestors who came through this area you will likely find them in our database. The late Herman Geschwind maintained this huge database and posted monthly updates as new contributions were entered. Database Viewers and GEDCOMs are available for download (click the Database Project link above.)
The Old Pendleton District Chapter is a local chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society, a non-profit, tax exempt organization. The State Society publishes a quarterly, The Carolina Herald and Newsletter, which you will also receive by being a member of the State Chapter.
